Craftsman Homes in Portland

Portland is known for it's abundance of gorgeous craftsman houses. Portland has some pocket neighborhoods that are all craftsman style homes, but mostly they are scattered throughout the city. Identifying a craftsman home is easy with all of their extremely recognizable features. Craftsman's tend to feature front facing gabled roofs, full front entry porches, broad eaves, exposed beams both inside and outside and bands of grouped windows. Craftsman homes can also have belly bands in between stories, porches with thick square posts, built in cabinetry and prominent fireplaces. 

Craftsman homes are beautiful and comfortable homes that were born from the arts and crafts movement following the Victorian era of houses. People wanted more comfortable, less formal homes that focused on quality rather than quantity. The arts and crafts movement focused on living life everyday simply and beautifully.  This movement continues to thrive today in Portland with a focus on restoring craftsman homes and continuing to work with high quality materials and beautiful finishes. Pride of ownership really shows in some Portland neighborhoods with rows of beautifully landscaped and well cared for craftsman homes. Ladds Addition is a great example of a craftsman focused neighborhood. 

Craftsman homes come in a all sizes. Some are small, efficient and only one story while others are large and grand. Portland has many types and sizes of craftsman homes that live harmoniously with the other architecture styles here in this beautiful city.

There are many beautiful Craftsman Homes in Portland.  This was a thriving city in the early 20th century when Craftsman Homes had their golden era.  This is a video a one of the nicest Craftsman Homes that I have seen in Portland.  I have compiled a list of active listing of these properties below. 

There also a style that we call "Contemporary Craftsman" that draws its inspiration from Craftsman homes of old.  The floor plans and facade are similar to the old school Portland Craftsman Homes.  Here is an example of new construction in this style.
