Nob Hill / Uptown / Alphabet District
The Nob Hill / Uptown district is well known for shopping, restaurants and eclectic housing. It is home to many old Portland style homes, classic brick apartment buildings and newer condo projects. The combination of these elements are what make this a desirable NW Portland neighborhood for visitors and residents alike. The streetcar line also ends in the Nob Hill area and connects people to the Pearl District and Downtown Portland. Nob Hill is also known as the Alphabet District due to all the streets being in alphabetical order.
Nob Hill has both new and old condo buildings that include: The Westerly, The Envoy, The Savier, The Vaux, The Terraces, The Cambridge, The Ball Parc, Tudor Arms and The Pacifica. These range greatly in prices, amenities and square footage. Some of the newer buildings are luxury condos with features such as a concierge and parking, while the vintage condos do not have these modern amenities (although they make up for this in charm).
Nob Hill has some of the cities best shopping and eating. NW 23rd is known for its local boutiques and high end retailers like Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Urban Outfitters and Smith & Hawken. There are also a large array of local boutiques with handmade goods and vintage finds, 3 Monkeys is a popular destination for apparel and home accessories. One of the most high-end resale shops in the city is located in this neighborhood as well, Seams to Fit on NW Raleigh. There are many local restaurants and even some carts, check out PB&J’s cart for their great sandwiches. Another local favorite is the Ringside steakhouse on Burnside. They have an amazing happy hour and arguably the best onion rings and steaks in town.
Nob Hill is also home to the Good Samaritan hospital, know by locals as Good Sam. Good Sam is on NW 22nd and is easily accessible by the streetcar. The wonderful employment opportunities at Good Sam are another reason why Nob Hill / Uptown is such a desirable place to live.
The Uptown area is attractive to all kinds of Portland people, young families, professionals and down sizers to name a few. It is a great lifestyle you live when residing in Portland’s upper NW neighborhoods. The area is highly walk able, easy to navigate, conveniently located to restaurants and shops and beautiful with a pleasing mix of old and new.
